Hi -oh ladies here i go again asking more qusetion i hope am not bugging you ladies but am have so much question as am so new at this RSD!!!!UH OH
I have developed RSD in my right foot/leg following car accident last year.CRY I am not able to go anywhere due to the extreme pain in my foot/leg. I have found one pair of Sketcher shoes that I can tolerate for a few minutes but wonder if anyone has found shoes that at least can be worn? I am desperate. I have ordered several pairs only to send them back as soon as I tried them on.

Has anyone found a pair of shoes that at least can be worn for enough time to go somewhere? I am open to any suggestions, no matter what the price. I also would like to see how others handle this extreme pain in the foot/feet and the feeling of walking on crushed glassCRY etc lol am wearing sandals right now and am still having problems wearing them also..

Thanks so much,
skibum

I have one friend with RSD in her left leg/foot. She wears Burkenstock sandals because she can't have anything on her toes or her heel.

I don't have it in my foot but I do in my knee so I just have to wear supportive, well padded shoes.

Wonder if a bamboo sock might help. What about the shoes bothers you? Are they too tight? A certain area that does something weird? Trying to get an idea of what your issues are. Maybe I can come up with something.

I have a crazy idea. I made a pair of slippers once and used a pair of cheap flip flops and cut off the straps so I just used the bottom. I made a sock thing that went over it. I think it was for a Halloween costume. Wonder if I did the same thing but instead used the bamboo fabric. (It's stretchy) So your foot would be completely covered, would feel more like a loose sock but would have the flip flop sole to give padding and keep your feet off the ground. Get what I mean? Hard to explain but I wonder if it would work? But need to know more about the issues you have with shoes. What makes them not work or not feel right

Well the fabric I have now is bamboo jersey fabric. Bamboo also comes in a sweatshirt type material too. So might be better for winter and could always make it 2 or 3 layers on the sock. I bet we can come up with something that will work. I've been meaning to play around with something like that since so many people have it in their feet.

And yes, I do have a little side thing where I make custom made clothing and other things for people with RSD. I don't make much money. I just enjoy helping people.

Oh! And.... I just got an email. The bamboo towels I was talking about are on sale for $30 for a set of 8 of them. Here's the link

I had one pair of hard plastic jelly shoes but they were very thick, the band on the top (the only thing to keep them on your feet) wasn't very wide these are what I wore when I first started with RSD, if I could wear a shoe.

Generally I was wearing a walking boot ----- for a very, very. very long time!!!!!
I couldn't tolerate socks of any kind on my RSD foot and it always annoyed people to see my bare toes stick out from the end of the walking boot. It didn't annoy me since the cold air didn't bother me as much as a sock could have!!!

I eventually tried Croc's after speaking with my doctor about trying to find any kind of a transitional shoe. Croc's has a prescription shoe that can be ordered on line and allows enough room for an orthotic. Those are the shoe's I still wear around the house. It was the only shoe I could wear when I took my walking boot off. The strap doesn't have to rest on your heel and that was always painful for me, as well as the medial side and certain points on the top of my foot.

If you try Croc's try to find a store that you can slip one on to see what size you may need. With swelling issues there's always a concern for size.

I've been trying to solve the shoe problem for 2 years now. I am going to try diabetic shoes with a deep toe box. They make a few of them out of neoprene for stretch. (But they are soooo ugly!!YUK! ) I've mostly been in a walking boot too, but my new doc doesn't want me to wear it anymore.

What are finger shoes??? I'm still working on yours. i had a few ideas that I'm working out right now. I'm going to send a few different things and see how it works for you.

What is it about the Birkenstocks that makes them uncomfortable to you?

Do you have a measuring tape? If so, measure the inside of the Birkenstock. I might be able to come up with an insert to go inside it out of the bamboo fabric. That way your foot wouldn't touch the shoe itself.

Also, forgot to ask what colors you wanted. I have pink, off white, white, black, and teal in the bamboo fabric. I'm going to get busy on everything this weekend. It's been crazy around here. Sorry for taking so long but I'm trying to come up with some ideas to help you be able to wear shoes better. I'm sure you will need it when it gets cold out.
